One-to-One Therapies

Somatic Therapy

Somatic therapy is a body-based approach to psychological healing that works with physical sensation, breath, and movement to help process trauma held in the nervous system, rather than through conversation alone. At Holina Executive, somatic work is delivered one-to-one, never in a group, and paced entirely around the individual.

What Is Somatic Therapy?

Somatic therapy pays close attention to physical sensation, breath, posture, and movement — the ways the body registers and holds experience. The premise is that trauma and chronic stress are not held in the mind alone; they shape the nervous system and remain present in the body long after an event has passed.

How Somatic Experiencing Works

Somatic Experiencing is a well-established somatic approach developed by Dr. Peter Levine, focused on how the nervous system can be supported to complete stress responses that were interrupted at the time. In practice, this means gently guiding attention toward bodily sensation and allowing the nervous system to discharge and reorganise at its own pace. Our practitioners, including psychotherapist Allon Chaimovitz, draw on somatic and mindfulness-based methods within this tradition.

Why Somatic Work Matters in Addiction and Trauma Recovery

Trauma and chronic stress are held physically as well as psychologically, and for many people these states sit beneath addiction and compulsive behaviour. Insight alone is often not enough — somatic work addresses that layer directly, supporting the body’s return to regulation, as part of our wider Treatment Programme.

What a Session Involves

A somatic session takes place in a calm, private one-to-one setting, guided by an experienced therapist, with gentle attention to sensation, breath, and subtle shifts in state. Sessions move at the pace the person can comfortably tolerate. There is no fixed script, no set duration, and no predetermined number of sessions.

Is somatic therapy a talking therapy?

Not primarily. It draws on conversation, but its focus is the body — sensation, breath, and the nervous system — rather than narrative alone.

Do I need to relive traumatic events for somatic work to help?

No. Somatic approaches such as Somatic Experiencing are designed to work within what feels manageable, attending to present-moment sensation.
